Things to See & Do
There are many historic towns scattered across the plains of Kansas, but Paxico holds a special place in the hearts of residents and visitors alike. Spend a day fishing tranquil Mill Creek or browsing the friendly antique shops. "Taste the Flint Hills" at two local wineries. There's also a pleasant new city park, full service campground and the picturesque Brown Rabbit art studio. Drop in at the historic Paxico United Methodist Church and iconic "Cathedral of the Flint Hills" (Sacred Heart Catholic Church). And when September arrives, bucolic Paxico gets an adrenaline burst as big city blues bands descend upon her streets for a yearly festival that's more than 5,000 strong.
Our town is home to artists Susan Poitevin and Hannah Matthews. Susan's work is displayed in The Brown Rabbit Studio at 22112 Campground Road; classes and art lessons are also available. Hannah's studio is located at historic 204 Main Street.
Just beyond the campground, Mill Creek winds through the woods and past Paxico's farmlands. It's a pleasant spot for amateur fisherman or a nature walk. You might spy frogs, fish, deer, hawks, owls and the occasional shy rabbit or fox.
Paxico City Park, donated by the Paxico American Legion and Auxiliary, began to quickly take shape in 2016, and presently features a shady play area and swings, a spacious shelter house, tree-lined walking trails, a basketball court and two pickleball courts.
Located at the edge of Paxico's quiet neighborhoods, it's within easy walking distance of the historic downtown area which includes antique shops, an art studio and the Paxico Longbranch cafe.
